Roy Harvey's 2011 DVD of ‘Rare & Scarce Birds’ on film

2011 DVD of ‘Rare & Scarce Birds’ on film

Lincolnshire attracted a host of excellent birds throughout the year including the long-staying White-tailed Eagle at Ruckland, American Black Tern at Covenham - a first record for the county. Sabine's Gull at Leadenham Tip, Marsh Sandpiper at Alkborough- and later at Blacktoft Sands. A brightly marked Spotted Sandpiper at Whisby, Kentish Plover at Rimac, Collared Pratincole at Immingham, Purple Heron at Huttoft Pits, Tawny Pipit at Tetney Lock, Lesser Yellowlegs at Alkborough, Ferruginous Duck at Barton, Buff-breasted Sandpipers at Saltfleet/Rimac and American Wigeon at Freiston Shore.

Lesser rarities include Dotterel, Red-necked and Grey Phalaropes, Pomarine Skua, Common Crane, Pectoral Sandpipers, Rough-legged Buzzard and Great Grey Shrike, all of which are featured.

Neighbouring Yorkshire picked up a Least Sandpiper at Old Moor plus a superb male Rustic Bunting at Filey during the Spring and then chipped in with three Autumn crackers in the form of Isabelline and Pied Wheaters at Spurn plus the lovely Desert Wheatear at Bempton Cliffs that was still present at the end of the year.

Also included are some superb birds filmed outside the featured region - Oriental Turtle Dove in Oxfordshire, White-throated Robin at Hartlepool, Sandhill Crane in Suffolk. Collared Flycatcher, Little Bittern, Western Sandpiper, Isabelline Shrike and Desert Wheatear in Norfolk. Sharp-tailed Sandpiper in Cleveland, Black Stork in Northants. Red-footed Falcon in Derbyshire, Broad-billed Sandpiper at Lound, Greater Yellowlegs in Northumberland and Squacco Heron in Notts.

The Scilly Isles had a tremendous autumn for rarities including Northern Waterthrush, Upland Sandpiper, Least Sandpiper, Wilson's Snipe and Olive-backed Pipits.

More than 70 sightings are featured in the 186 minutes of running time, which includes narration.

Once again, I have held the price of the two-disc DVD set at £15.75 including post & packing.
